History Snapshot

Crossway Christian Church, also known as Spencerville Free Methodist Church, begun in the summer of 1899, the first Free Methodist tent meeting was held on Colesville Road at Clovely, Maryland. Rev. A.G. Miller, a Free Methodist missionary-evangelist was the speaker. The then, Spencerville Free Methodist church, was organize by Rev. A.G Miller in the fall of that year with sixteen charter members. Services were held in the Spencerville Hall until the fall of 1905. In the summer of 1905 work began on the original church on the ground next to the Spencerville Hall. The ground that the original church was built on was donated by Mr. Albert Sargent.

Debby Poole

Children Director

Cathy Brent has been serving as Children’s Ministry Director at Faith Community Church since 2005. Cathy holds a BS in Early Childhood Development from Virginia Tech and has taught preschool through sixth grade at Christian schools in Illinois and Virginia. In addition to teaching, Cathy is the mother of three active boys and has been happily married to her husband, Robert, since 1993. More than anything, Cathy’s desire is for children to come to know Christ and grow in Him. This desire permeates the Faith Community Church children’s ministry.


Peggy Poole

Secretary/ Treasurer and Board member

Sandy Warner fulfills her life mission of helping and caring for people through her role as FCC Administrative Assistant and as an EFT certified Emotional Coach. As the administrative Assistant she provides a broad range of practical help and support to the pastors and staff. A graduate of James Madison University, Sandy and her husband Jeff have a son at home and two married daughters.


Lauren Murengezi

Acts director 

Dana serves as the Assistant Children’s Director at FCC. She is married to Jonathan and is the mom to seven children; five of whom she currently homeschools. Dana’s passion and heart’s desire is to reach the children of FCC, as well as children of the surrounding communities, with the love of Christ, so that they might learn to hide His word in their hearts and walk boldly in their faith.


Ebenezer Murengezi 

Lead Pastor

Ebenezer was born in Rwanda and spent his childhood and a big part of his young adult life in Kenya as a refugee. He has been a born-again Christian as long as he can remember. As a pastor’s son, he has had many opportunities to serve in the church as a choir member, leading youth ministry, and leading the praise and worship ministry.

Ebenezer is married to Lauren with 5 children Seth, Noami, Joshua, Sarene, and Emmanuel. As a couple, they love to composing songs and enjoy hosting people.


Ricardo Escobar

Assistant / Worship Pastor

Blake has a deep passion for teaching God’s Word with clarity and relevance, and helping each person in our faith family to experience God’s wholeness and live into their calling. Blake and Lori have 5 kids ranging from 9 – 25 years old.  They planted a church in Maryland, pastored in Tampa and Seattle, started a house church movement in the Middle East, and now have responded to God’s call to lead us as we seek to live into our calling here in the Valley to radically share the grace and truth of Jesus with all.


John Davis

Delegate and Board member

Donna leads Worship through music at FCC.  Her passion for music started when she was two.  She participated in music programs at church and throughout school, graduating from JMU with a degree in music education.  She considers herself fortunate to use her passion for music to fulfill her higher passion, pursuing God more deeply.  One of her hobbies is realized through her job at JMU, as an application administrator in Libraries & Educational Technologies.  Donna is married to Mike, has two sons and a daughter-in-law.
